The Making of Corak The Hunter

The Making of Corak The Hunter by philip herman
My name is Philip Herman. I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia but currently I live in Singapore. Now I work for KOEI Entertainment (Japanese video game company) as a 3D character artist. I’d like to share with you guys how I created my image, Corak The Hunter.
Concept
I made this image as a freelance job that I got from Red Eye Studio to create 3D Art assets for their game "Dark Sovereign" that is currently in development. So the concept and designs of the character were made by them. They wanted the image to be liked a movie poster. So I used some references from Pirates Of The Carribean 3, Hellboy, Harry Porter, etc. Here is the concept.

Rigging of Cane-Toad

Building a rig is a lot like building a simple machine that works like a puppet. I know a lot of people who think that rigging as an immensely complex chore. I’d have to agree that it is a chore! But it’s really not difficult at all (just perhaps just a little tedious!) Fortunately the hard work always worth it in the end. In the future I hope there’ll be a lot more automated ways for building custom set-ups.

Free 3D World tutorial - Perfect digital Skin

Realistic skin is hard to fake because it's both an artistic and a technical challenge. It's artistic because you can almost feel a character's personality through the look of its skin; its wrinkles, colours and beauty spots. But it's also a technical test, because skin isn't like a homogeneous material that has simple physical properties – it's composed of several different layers. However, we always model it as a perfectly even thin surface, which is why it's so hard to get good results. To make matters worse, until recently, 3D software didn't include appropriate rendering tools to make human skin, such as subsurface scattering shaders........more!!Free 3D World tutorial - Perfect digital Skin Link
